Soil-less Microgreens
Grow Your Own at Home Microgreens Kit
1:) Each bag of Soil-less potting mix contains enough mix to grow two of your included Soil-less Microgreen cups. To use, simply add a ½ Cup of water, per bag of potting mix & stir up (like a cookie batter). Ensure that the water is evenly distributed throughout the potting mix (this may take several minutes to accomplish correctly, but this is very important). When done mixing, your potting mix should feel slightly damp, but not soaked at all. Do not over water mix, as this will cause problems with germination (seeds not opening up, mold, etc.) ½ Cup of water should be sufficient to achieve proper moisture level
2:) Fill two of your Soil-less Microgreens cups, with your Soil-less Potting Mix all the way to the rim (all the way to the top). Now that you have a bed (cup) of potting mix, you will need to tamp (press) it down slightly. By tamp I mean gently pressing the potting mix down into the cup about a ¼” or so using the Soil-less Saucer that comes with each cup. Place it right side up on top of the potting mix in the cup. Gently push down on the saucer to compress & compact the potting mix ever so slightly. This will ensure that the roots have to work a little bit to anchor themselves in & ensure strong & healthy growing Micro’s!
3:) Next you will need a spoon, & to choose the variety of seed you wish to plant. With the spoon, carefully remove seeds from bag and gently distribute them across the tamped bed of potting mix in your cup! I usually do this by tapping the spoon gently as I move my hand from side to side across the cup. It is important to try to cover the entire top without leaving too much space between seeds, & equally important not to pile seeds up on top of one another. So try to get it as evenly distributed as possible. In farming we call this step “Broadcasting seed”.
4:) Next, take the saucer and tamp down the seeds you’ve just sown (planted). This is exactly like you did it before with the potting mix in Step 2. Since you have evenly broadcasted your seeds they need to be put into their new bed you’ve made them & snuggled into place. For this we use the saucer again & tamp the seeds into the bed using slightly greater pressure than before. If done correctly, the seeds for the most part, will be slightly pressed/set into the potting mix. Not all have to be, but for the most part they should be.
5:) Now, remove the saucer & set aside for this step. Then take your bottle of Soil-less Anti-Fungal & mist your sown seeds finely (about 50-70 pumps). When you are misting remember why you’re doing it & the purpose of it: this will help set the seeds into place, protect them from mold or fungus causing issues, as well as provide a humid & moist environment (which your seeds need) to ensure a successful Soil-less Microgreens Grow every time!
6:) When misting is complete, replace Soil-less Saucer back onto seeds (right side up). If you tamped correctly, the top rim of the saucer, should be just barely above the rim of the Soil-less cup itself. Now take one of the rubber bands and place it around the cup, stretching it from top to bottom. This will hold the saucer on top of the seeds while they germinate, as well as provide some weight to the top of the seeds, so as to force the roots to shoot down when the seeds actually sprout. This small bit of weight the rubber band is providing will also help to ensure your seeds germinate evenly (sprout within the same timeframe) which will help ensure a successful Soil-less Microgreens Grow. Find a well-ventilated area to place your Soil-less Microgreens while they grow!
7:) This step of the growing process is called “Germinating”. This is when the seeds soak up enough moisture from the potting mix to be able to sprout out of their seed shell and start to become a Microgreen. This process takes anywhere from 3-5 days. All you have to do while you are waiting for the microgreens to germinate is simply that: Wait!! Patiently!!! It’s going to be tough. But trust the process of nature doing what it is supposed to do. On day two or three you may see the saucer starting to lift up out of the cup a little bit. This is a great thing! This means that your Micro’s are well on their way to heading to the next stage of growth! If by day four you feel that all your Microgreens are germinated across the whole cup it’s time for: Blackout Phase!! If you feel that your Micro’s could still use another day of germinating, just to ensure that the whole bed across the cup has sprouted let it go another day. But not any longer, or you risk the Micros being crushed from being too tall in a small space. This will hinder if not ruin your grow. So absolutely no longer than five days. Always shoot for four days as a rule of thumb.
8:) Blackout Phase. During this stage of your grow the Micro’s get their height, & hence, added nutrition. After removing your rubber band & Soil-less Saucer, you should see a whole lot of yellow leaf tips attached to short stems. This is because the leaves have had no exposure to light denying them “Photosynthesis”.
Technically speaking (which I never like to do)
Photosynthesis - Photosynthesis is a process by which phototrophs convert light energy into chemical energy, which is later used to fuel cellular activities. The chemical energy is stored in the form of sugars, which are created from water and carbon dioxide.
That is a process that plants go through that allows the plant to process energy & start to grow!
Be that as it may, we are going to deprive our little Micro’s of light for just a little bit longer.
To do this we must first, flip our Soil-less Saucer over and rinse off the bottom. This will now become our top for this intensive purpose. Once rinsed set aside.
Next take your Soil-less Anti-fungal spray bottle and mist the canopy of potting mix (where the stems are coming out of the potting mix). This should take approximately 10-20 pumps. Once the potting mix canopy has been misted, replace the Soil-less Saucer upside down (like a hat) on top of the canopy of Microgreens. Try to get all the tops of the leaves underneath the saucer (like trying to get all of your hair into a hat). That’s it! Now we wait another two to three days of even more depending on how tall you want your Soil-less microgreens to grow!!
Congratulations!!!
You are a successful Microgreens Grower!
You should feel great about growing Living Superfoods!
Daily Care is simple.
Once a day, in the morning time, put two inches of water into a bowl. Place you Soil-less Microgreen Cups in the bowl for about three to four minutes each. The water will wick up from the holes on the bottom of your Microgreen Cups and ensure your Living Super Foods are watered all day long.
Repeat this step once a day until you’ve eaten all your veggies!
If any mold appears across the canopy, simply spray with Soil-less Anti-Fungal (a couple of pumps should be enough to make it disappear) until it is gone.
The Anti-Fungal is Organic and completely safe to use anywhere. Do not consume it, and keep out of eyes.
The ingredients are as follows:
Soil-less Antifungal consists of only the following:
Water, Potassium Bicarbonate (like Baking Soda only Potassium instead of Sodium (salt)), Organic Dish Soap & Organic Cold Pressed Herb Extract.
That’s it. So feel confident in using it for growing your Soil-less Microgreens. I created it to help you and ensure successful grows time & time again!
Enjoy your Soil-less Microgreens: Raw, always RAW, and however you can think of to use them! There is no incorrect way to eat Microgreens. As long as they are consumed raw, your body will benefit from their nutrition every time & all of the time! Guaranteed!! Use them in Smoothies/shake, on top of Salads or as a salad themselves, put them into sandwiches like lettuce and tomatoes, eat them as a snack instead of going to bag of salty carbs, put them on top of soups, takeout, breakfast sandwiches, tacos, wraps, I think you get the point! Just eat them and your body will love you for it!
Live Well, Be Happy, & Eat Soil-less Microgreens!
Thank you for purchasing a Soil-less Microgreens Grow Your Own at Home Kit. I hope you enjoyed growing & eating it as much as I did creating it with you in mind!
